Also here's my update and the current landscape. Almost everybody is using Figma now so as much experience as you can get with that as far as prototyping, variance with properties, and design systems would be great.

Of course AI is going to be a big part of the future. Figma has an AI component which they are slowly rolling out which I have not gotten yet.

Finally the world is moving toward Product Designer roles, which means you do the UX work and the UI work.

I was not trained in UI but if you can hone your design skills or if you're already a visual designer will be a huge bonus.

Lastly, knowing at least something about research will be helpful and I'm sure you'll do a lot of that in your courses.
