Having worked in the field for 15 years, whenever I get this question I immediately direct people to a Google UX course on Coursera.

Not because it's good but because:

1) It's a cheap introduction to the field that, if you finish, will cost you less than $200.

2. You'll quickly learn if you want to pursue this field as a career. I can't find the stats right now but I know the completion rate is under 50% for all seven modules.
