I think it was about 2005. I went with Rainier Mountaineering run by Jim Jim Whittaker's son. Jim was the first American to summit Everest.
We had to take a 2 day class before the climb, so everyone had basic mountaineering skills.
I've also climbed Kilimanjaro, Mt. Hood, Mt Shasta, and Long's Peak in Colorado. Rainier is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. The last super physical thing I did was the 42 mile Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and it nearly did me in!
Everest base camp was on my list but I don't think I have it in me anymore. I'll have to settle for Petra in Jordan. :-)
