Several things I have noticed that change friendships forever.

1. Marriage
2. Kids
3. Location

In a big city like Chicago if someone moves to the suburbs or even another neighbor across town, your encounters will be fewer and fewer.

Married people tends to hang out with married people. People with kids tend to hang out with other people with kids.

Maintaining friendship past 40 gets increasingly difficult with each passing year.
