Thanks for writing this. I've worked in this field for over 15 years and I'm a little disheartened by the non-stop ads for boot camps and the seemingly popular opinion that anyone can just become a UX designer by taking a class.

From my experience, the people that are the most successful coming out of a boot camp are people with a graphic design or front-end programming background.

Graphic design and UX have a lot of overlapping design principles, and coming in with that knowledge will make learning UX design a lot easier.

But if you are an accountant, or a salesperson, or come from some other totally unrelated background, a boot camp is not magically going to turn you into a UX Designer. You really need some background in a related field to understand what you are getting into.

Finally, don't discount the role of UX Researcher. UX Researchers and UX Designers work hand and hand to craft better experiences, and if you don't feel designing things is up your alley, researching and testing things someone else designed is really a whole field in and of itself.
