The "One Big Beautiful Bill" and Your Social Security Benefits
One big omission is very disappointing
I recently wrote a piece on my thoughts about the best time to start taking Social Security payments. It got me thinking about the current President’s promise to end taxes on Social Security payments, so I did some quick research on the status of the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
What’s the current status of the OBBB?
The House recently passed what’s officially called the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act", a comprehensive package that extends President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and addresses spending for many other federal programs. For Americans over 50, particularly those nearing or already in retirement, the most important news is what this bill does NOT do to Social Security.
Why are there no Social Security cuts in this bill?
Democrats have spent weeks raising concerns about potential cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security in the One Big Beautiful Bill, but supporters of the legislation say those talking points are false. The bill deliberately avoids making direct cuts to Social Security benefits, which aligns with President Trump's campaign promise that Social Security "won't be touched" during his administration.
